This is a very nice reproduction of the original 1800s Phrenology Head by L.N. Fowler that described brain functions. Phrenology is the study of the brain from the outside in. This treasure is done to perfection in Gray Color ceramic cracked glazed pottery with deep Blue accents. Sections of the skull are described as “Benevolence, Ideality, Self Esteem, Domestic Propensities” and many more. It even has the original Fowler’s resume on back “For thirty years I have studied Crania and living heads from all parts of the work and have found in every instance that there is a perfect correspondence between the conformation of the healthy skull of an individual and his known characteristics……”. Fowler and Wells also wrote books for city to city seminars and directed self-analysis of individuals to determine their personal identification and career directions. The medical horror of these 1800s findings were that doctors actually used described areas to drill into a living patient’s head (lobotomy) to relieve problem ailments. It stands 12” tall and is in perfect condition. This is a must for the vintage medical collector, doctor’s office, and psychotic boss or for the psychologist or psychiatrist in your life!
