This is a highly detailed model of the CSS Hunley Submarine or The Iron Fish Boat. The machine required eight strong men inside to turn the handles, pump ballast tanks, dive and steer the vessel designed to destroy Union ships. It is made of metal, wood and resin with amazing detail. Many books have been written and movies made to historically record this Confederate terror of the seas. Although it sunk only one ship The Housatonic and then mysteriously sank herself, modern day submarine use in battle began with this amazing machine. It is 36” in length from explosive spear to rudder. Actual model is 22” in length by 5” high. It is new in original box and will highlight any collection of submarines.
