This is a set of four, 4, Otoscopes in case designed by Knapp in 1889 made of brass with nickel plating. Case is stamped PSMCO and when unscrewed reveals four, 4, otoscopes. They were used to examine the inner ear and perform surgery. They are pictured and described in Keith Wilbur’s book Antique Medical Instruments. It has been reported some folks would purchase them to use as an ear trumpet. Wilbur states the cone shaped cone tube was placed in the ear canal while the opposing hand pulled outwards and upwards so as to elongate the cartelagenous of the canal for examination. Collectors of antique ear medical instruments will find this a highlight to their collection.
