This is an 1800’s 3 Blade Fleam / Bleeder Knife used to cure many ailments of the period. The case / housing is be made of Horn or Bone with all three blades in good condition and marked “Borwick Cast Steel”. One side is missing a small portion of bone handle. Owner’s name is engraved on spine “Thomas White” with intricate engravings most likely a doctor of the period. History preserves that when a variety of physical ailments were prevalent, this device would slice open a vein and bleeding demons would be released for cure. With the blades in, it is 3 1/8" long; with a blade out it is 5 3/4" long. The 3 blades are in good condition. It will highlight any collection of old medical instruments to cure ailing patients.
