This is the rare and famous Boyd’s Battery Pendent, consisting of a series of discs made of copper, brass, nickel & other metals that claimed with the electrical positive & negative charges would cure all diseases. It was to be worn around the neck for cure all diseases, especially various rheumatic conditions (It was a Quack Device of the Period). We have preserved this rare treasure in a Riker Glass Display Case. J.C. Boyd of New York patented his device in London on January 17, 1878. Dr. Boyd’s 1878 advertised claim was “The Blood is the Life. An astounding discovery”, “Accomplished at Last, The efficiency of electricity”, “For all diseases wear the Battery around the neck”. He once published an inch-thick book on his galvanic battery made up entirely of testimonials. Condition is very good. Size: 1 1/4 inch in diameter. Case Size is 8.25” x 6.25”. Original pendant size is 1.25” in diameter. This is a rare treasure that will highlight any collection of old medical equipment of 125+ years ago (Copyright New Beginning Antiques 2003 - 2007).
