This is the rare and famous Boyd’s Battery Pendent, consisting of a series of discs made of copper, brass, nickel & other metals that claimed with the electrical positive & negative charges will cure all diseases. Included are four, 4, of the seldom found trade cards that Boyd used to advertise his quack device. These are the original advertising cards, NOTreproductions). The battery was to be worn around the neck to cure nearly all diseases, especially various rheumatic conditions. J.C. Boyd of New York patented his device in London on January 17, 1878. Dr. Boyd’s 1878 advertised claim was “The Blood is the Life. An astounding discovery”, “Accomplished at Last, The efficiency of electricity”, “For all diseases wear the Battery around the neck”. He once published an inch-thick book on his galvanic battery made up entirely of testimonials. Condition: very good. Size: 1.25 inch in diameter. Original Advertisement Cards are 4” x 3”. This is a rare treasure that will highlight any collection of old medical equipment of 125+ years ago.
