This is a London Dome Ear Trumpet or hearing aid circa 1860. It is made of brass metal painted black color with light paint loss and stands 4” high and 2.25” diameter. There is no maker’s mark, but this is in the style by original inventor F. C. Rein was a premier maker of Ear Trumpets in the middle 1800s. It is in good operational and display condition. This rare treasure is an excellent example of 150+ year-old technologies to aid those with hearing problems. It is documented that Beethoven during various periods of his life used a London Dome Ear Trumpet while writing his Battle Symphony and later lost total hearing.
