This rare treasure is an original IBM 1401 Manual is titled “IBM 1401 Data Processing Systems Operator's Guide” publication number A24-3144-2 March 1965, reprinted January 1967. It is from the IBM Systems Reference Library and is in excellent condition with 152 pages and many photos of this 1960s computer. The manual describes the operating features and procedures for each of the units in an IBM 1401 system. Publication includes pictures, features and operation of many 1401 system devices including 1401 Processing Unit, 1402 Card Reader-Punch, 1403 Printer, 1404 Printer, 1443 Printer, 729 and 7330 Magnetic Tape Units, 7340-2 Hyper tape Drive, 1311 Disk Storage Drive, 1405 Disk Storage, 1407 Console Inquiry Station, 1447-3 Console, 1009 Data Transmission Unit, 1231 Optical Mark Page Reader, and 1285 Optical Reader. Numerous pictures and drawings show the internal parts, controls and mechanisms of these devices. This manual explains recommended procedures for restarting after an error condition on the 1402 or 1403. It is Paperback of size 11” x 8.5” x .50”. The pages are solid and clean. This is a rare find of IBM memoribillia and belongs in a museum or with a serious computer collector of 50+ year old computer antiques.
