This is an original 1862 Stanley London Transit Compass. It is made of brass and steel with top stamped Stanley London 1862 and on compass face is Stanley London. There are side screws to rotate inside bevel showing degrees. It has a base extension to mount onto a tripod. This rarely found civil war era is in exceptional display and operational condition. In most cases they were used for geological surveying. The mirror is in excellent condition with slight foxing around clear see through area. A Stanley London Compass is the Holy Grail of compasses. There are a variety of reproductions and we guarantee this is an original highly sought after by collectors. It is in good condition and in operational condition. Size is 4” diameter x 4” high. This is a very beautiful and unique piece for collectors of old Compass’s.
