This treasure is a 1941 British Marine Medal with hidden Compass in back.  The brass medal is seldom found and very rare.  It is British with Royal Marine, RM, Beret Insignia and Earth Globe on front.  The Globe contains the escape compass that was honored to RM Commando Units.  The escape compass has the “jagged” floating compass dial to remember their amazing escape and given to survivors in late 1940s.  This is the original gift to escapees with less common round dial and four small holes in it.  Later models did NOT have this.  The compass is affixed to the backside of insignia and made up of three, 3, pieces (metal, back and clip).  This piece of history contains the insignia, compass, brass plate and brass wire to adhere to.  It measure 2” x 3”.  Collectors of military memorabilia will find this their highlight to the collection.
