This is a late 1800s to early 1900s Western Electric Telephone in dove tailed wood case.  Top name plate reads “New Standard”.  It has the early outside connections for the ear piece receiver and bottom connections for low voltage power connection.  Most often this model was used by train station dispatchers to connect with rail switching employees, but could also be found in apartments and homes.  Western Electric began making telephones in 1881.  The ear piece is labeled Western Electric.  Note the small button below mouth piece, perhaps to signal / ring other telephones or simply the duplex talk and listening control.  At top is the ring bell.  Size is 10” x 5” x 3” and weighs 3 lbs...   There is a small chip in mouth piece, but overall condition is in very good condition.  We have no way of testing it and sold as is.
