This is a rare variation of the Webb figure 8 adding machine called The Lightning Adder with directions. C. H. Webb invented and patented this machine in 1868 and gave permission to the Lightning Company to manufacture it. Included is the seldom found 20 page instruction booklet. This unmarked machine is called the Lightning Calculator offered in 1889. The machine is in very good operational and display condition. Included is Metal Stylus and not certain if original, but works perfectly with this machine. In Thomas Russo’s book on “Antique Office Machines”, this is called the Webb Variation “D” and availability is very scarce with a value of over $ 600.00. It is truly a piece of history from 120+ years ago.
